PRP hair restoration

An assessment-led approach to thinning hair. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) uses a preparation made from your own blood, delivered to the scalp by injection. It may help some people with pattern hair loss; it does not replace a diagnosis or guarantee regrowth.

The short answer

What is PRP for hair loss?

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. A clinician takes a small blood sample, separates and concentrates its platelets, then injects the preparation into selected areas of the scalp. Unlike a transplant, PRP does not move follicles into bald areas. Research suggests that some people with pattern hair loss may see an improvement in hair density, but results and treatment methods vary. First find out why you are losing hair: sudden shedding, a scalp condition or a medical cause may call for a different plan.

Why consider it

Potential advantages, without promises

No graft harvesting

PRP is an injection-based treatment. It does not require removing donor follicles or designing a surgical hairline.

Uses your own blood

Platelets come from your blood sample. That does not make the injections risk-free; screening and careful technique still matter.

An option for existing hair

It may be discussed when follicles are still present and thinning. It cannot be relied upon to rebuild a fully absent hairline or replace a transplant.

PRP is not a cure for every kind of hair loss. A review found signals of improved hair density in some studies, but the evidence was limited by differences in protocols and study quality. Ask your clinician how this applies to your diagnosis.

The treatment journey

What a PRP plan involves

Establish the cause

Discuss when thinning began, medical history and scalp symptoms. A clinician may recommend additional evaluation rather than injections.

Prepare and inject

Blood is collected, processed to separate platelet-rich plasma and injected into the areas selected in your treatment plan.

Review the response

If a series is recommended, agree on the number and spacing of visits, a way to document change and the point at which to reconsider the plan.

Aftercare: You may have temporary tenderness, redness or bruising from the blood draw or scalp injections. Follow the clinician's instructions about washing, exercise and medicines; do not assume there is zero downtime for everyone.
PRP packages at Peak

A plan you can understand

PRP sessions at Peak start at $395 per session, and follow-up is included. Peak offers multi-session packages, but the number and spacing of sessions and any package total are determined after a hair-loss assessment. Request a written plan and exact total before committing; we have not published a fixed package price.

If you are considering PRP after an FUE transplant, ask whether it is appropriate in your case, when it could be started and how its effects would be evaluated separately from normal transplant growth. PRP is not proven to guarantee graft survival.

What to request in your written quote

  • The proposed number of sessions and time between them
  • The areas of the scalp to be treated
  • What the price includes: consultation, injections and follow-up
  • Whether any maintenance visits are proposed and their cost
  • What will be documented before and after treatment
  • Which location and clinician will provide treatment

Sessions start at $395 each with follow-up included. Confirm what your follow-up covers and request the total for your recommended plan before committing.

Who might consider PRP?

Diagnose before treating

PRP has been studied most often for male and female pattern hair loss. A clinician can explain whether it is worth considering alongside established treatments. If your hair loss is sudden, patchy, associated with itching or inflammation, or follows a medical or life event, the underlying cause needs attention first.

Some forms of shedding can improve without PRP. Do not assume that every kind of hair loss, including postpartum or medication-associated shedding, will respond to the same injection plan. Read the American Academy of Dermatology's diagnosis guidance →

Safety and limits

Questions before you book

  • Do I have pattern hair loss, or is another cause more likely?
  • Could a scalp condition, blood disorder, medication or other health factor affect suitability?
  • Who prepares and administers the injections, and how are instruments handled?
  • What side effects and aftercare should I expect?
  • What would count as a meaningful response—and when should we reassess?

PRP involves a blood draw and scalp injections; soreness, bruising, bleeding or infection are possible. A medical professional should review individual risks.

Patient questions

Clear answers about PRP

How many PRP sessions will I need?

There is no single schedule appropriate for everyone. Peak offers multi-session packages, but the number and timing should be confirmed after your assessment, with a plan for follow-up and reassessment.

When will I see a change?

Hair changes take months, not days. Results are variable and some patients see no meaningful improvement. Agree on consistent photographs and a review date with your clinician rather than a guaranteed timeline.

Is PRP better than a hair transplant?

They address different needs. PRP is non-surgical and may help existing thinning hair; FUE transfers follicles to a planned area. Neither should be selected before diagnosis and an assessment of your goals.

Can PRP be used after a transplant?

Peak discusses PRP as a possible adjunct. Timing and suitability should be decided by the treating surgeon. PRP cannot guarantee transplanted graft survival or a particular density.

Is there downtime or discomfort?

There is no surgical donor wound, but blood collection and scalp injections can cause temporary soreness, redness or bruising. Ask for instructions specific to your treatment.

How much is a PRP package at Peak?

PRP sessions start at $395 each, with follow-up included. A fixed multi-session package price and session count are not listed here. Request a written quote showing your exact total, visit schedule, what follow-up covers and any maintenance charges.
